Our mission:  In…Up…and Out…

To compel sinners to come IN and become a member of the family of God.  Build them UP from babes to mature disciples of Christ through the uncompromised Word of God. Send them OUT as bold witnesses to persuade men, women and children to become true Disciples of Christ and laborers for the kingdom of God.

Church history:

House of Prayer COGIC (formerly Smith Temple #2) was established in May 1984 by Superintendent Thomas C. Leak of Fayetteville, North Carolina.  Our first service was held in the home of the late Mother Allie Marie Boone.   In 1988, God inspired Superintendent Leak to move outside into the community.  After consulting with Mother Boone, she graciously consented to having a tent erected on her front lawn.  Thus, the Word of God was going out into the highways and hedges.  As time passed on, the Lord blessed this ministry to purchase land and a building.  On October 17, 1993, we went from prayer in the kitchen to worship in the church edifice.  Through preaching and teaching of the Word of God in this sanctuary, the ministry continued to grow and the word of salvation also reached many souls through radio and cable television broadcasting.

On May 13, 1999, after prayerful consideration of the ministry, Superintendent Leak appointed Elder George Coney Jr. as pastor because of his faithfulness and loyalty to the ministry.  As the Holy Spirit continued to move and bless in our services, Elder Coney was inspired by God to change the name of the church to House of Prayer Church of God in Christ deriving from Mark 11:17.  The Lord blessed us to dedicate our new edifice on April 7, 2007. Over the past nineteen years, the ministry has experienced sweeps of growth and waves of storms as God continues to move in our mist.
